Chevening 2027: Don’t Turn Your Work Experience Into a Job Description
The Chevening 2027/2028 application portal is open from 4 August to 6 October 2026. Strong CVs and years of experience are not enough if your essays merely repeat your job description. The selection committee wants evidence of leadership, influence and a clear plan to create impact in Nigeria. Avoid passive statements such as “I was responsible for” or “I was tasked with.” Focus on what you personally initiated, the resistance or challenge you overcame, the people you influenced and the measurable change your action produced. Use only evidence you can defend at interview, rather than inflated figures or generic claims of success. Your leadership, networking, UK study and career-plan essays should tell one connected story. Your past achievements should support your choice of courses, and those courses should clearly fit your long-term goals.
