Evra Slams CAF’s AFCON 2025 Ruling as ‘A Disgrace for African Football’

Evra Slams CAF’s AFCON 2025 Ruling as ‘A Disgrace for African Football’ — 1 of 8
1 / 8

Former Manchester United and Juventus star Patrice Evra has condemned CAF’s decision to strip Senegal of the AFCON 2025 title. Senegal led 1-0 in extra time when VAR awarded Morocco a contentious penalty. The entire Senegal team then walked off the pitch for more than 20 minutes before captain Sadio Mané coaxed them back. CAF cited violations of Articles 82 and 84 and later awarded the trophy to Morocco. Evra called the outcome “a disgrace for African football, a scandal,” and argued it has shattered the tournament’s credibility. He insisted that Senegal remain the true champions of AFCON 2025.

True. This kind of decision raises doubts about CAF's consistency and could impact AFCON's credibility going forward.

One shaky call doesn't erase years of solid tournaments, make we not overhype the drama.

It's surprising how a high-profile match ended with a walk-off, raising more questions than answers about VAR consistency.

I get why Evra's upset, but calling it a disgrace overlooks the complexity of refereeing in extra time.

Teams should document all VAR incidents in real time and file formal appeals to pressure CAF into clearer regulations.
