Two Die as Flash Flood Hits Damaturu Communities in Yobe
Two people have died after flash flooding followed heavy rainfall in Malari, Pompomari and nearby communities in Damaturu Local Government Area of Yobe State. The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency identified the victims as 38-year-old Isa Haruna, a security personnel, and 18-year-old Abba Kyari, who reportedly drowned in Pompomari. SEMA and the Yobe State Fire Service recovered the bodies and conveyed them to the General Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital mortuary in Damaturu. SEMA has advised residents to stay away from rivers, culverts, flooded roads and other high-risk areas. Parents and guardians were also urged to keep children away from floodwaters, clear blocked drainage channels, follow weather updates and report emergencies promptly. Authorities are still assessing the extent of property damage caused by the flooding.
