Crystal Palace are searching for a top-class centre-back following Maxence Lacroix’s £52 million move to Chelsea. The Eagles star Chibuike Nwaiwu has emerged as a reliable backup option on their wishlist. Palace’s primary target remains Augsburg’s Chrislain Matsima, valued at around €22 million after his breakthrough Bundesliga season. According to reports, Nwaiwu is the club’s plan B if talks for Matsima stall. The 22-year-old Nigerian international joined Trabzonspor in January and impressed with three goals in 21 appearances. Under contract until 2030, he has already won league and cup titles in Nigeria, Austria and Turkey and is keen on a Premier League move.
