Tinubu Vows Stronger Partnership with Northern Traditional Rulers to Bolster Security
President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to closer collaboration with Northern traditional rulers to advance peace, security, national cohesion and sustainable development. He conveyed this message at the 8th Executive Committee Meeting of the Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council in Dutse, Jigawa State via the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris. The minister commended the council, led by the Sultan of Sokoto, for its role as community mediators and trusted links between government and citizens. He emphasized that peace and unity are essential foundations for sustainable development and that traditional rulers’ moral authority and grassroots reach make them critical partners in governance and community mobilization. On security, the government highlighted improved coordination among the armed forces, intelligence agencies and local communities, which has yielded gains against criminal and terrorist groups. At the same time, officials stressed the need to tackle root causes of insecurity such as poverty, unemployment and social exclusion. Economic and infrastructure initiatives were also outlined, including new interventions in agriculture, the establishment of a Ministry of Livestock Development, four major legacy highway projects, and people-focused programmes under the Renewed Hope Agenda. The administration called on traditional rulers to support public awareness efforts and counter misinformation to deepen unity and drive development.
