Is Nigeria’s Education System Really a Scam?
Many Nigerians believe that school is just about learning good English and earning top grades for high-paying jobs. But education should also shape our behavior and show us how to apply what we learn to society. Since gaining independence in 1960, we still struggle to build a civil society. Educated people vandalize public property, overcharge for government projects, litter our streets and even relieve themselves in public. If schooling truly worked, there would be a clear difference in conduct between the educated and the uneducated. Yet in Nigeria, they often behave the same way, which raises the question: is our education system failing us?
