Leaving the Religion of War: A Father’s Account of Sharia Violence
I left the religion I grew up in after learning about its violent side. In Kwara State, more than 200 people were killed for rejecting the faith, and no Muslim leaders spoke out against it. I once celebrated my son’s graduation at ile kewu with a big party and a popular musician. He later told me he had left the faith too, saying his classes only taught him how to kill. I read original Sharia texts and discovered they prescribe executions and amputations for trivial offenses. I was shocked that some want to oppress us on our own land. Some clerics, including Mufty Iwo and Sheikh Labeeb, seem to push this agenda for a fee. If Sharia takes hold, they will start killing us one by one. We must unite in Yoruba land to defend ourselves against this oppression.
