UNIZIK Lecturers Begin Indefinite Strike Over Unpaid August Salary Balance
Lecturers at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, have begun an indefinite strike over the non-payment of their full August 2026 salaries. The ASUU-UNIZIK branch said its congress approved an immediate withdrawal of academic and administrative services on September 7. The union cited an ASUU national resolution allowing branches to strike when salaries remain unpaid after the third day of the following month. The union said members have faced similar delays more than three times. It urged the university management and the Federal Government to pay the outstanding salary balance and prevent a repeat of the situation.
