Osimhen Left Out of CAF Player of the Year Shortlist Despite Galatasaray Success
Victor Osimhen has been omitted from CAF’s 10-man shortlist for the men’s Player of the Year award. The 2023 winner helped Galatasaray secure a second straight Turkish league title and has scored 16 league goals in 2026 so far, but did not make the nominees. His omission means no Nigerian player is nominated for either the men’s or women’s Player of the Year award this year. The men’s shortlist includes Achraf Hakimi, Sadio Mané, Brahim Díaz, Ismaila Sarr and Antoine Semenyo. Hakimi is tipped to retain the award after winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Morocco and the UEFA Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain. The CAF Awards ceremony is scheduled for December 16 in Lagos.
