Orhan Pamuk, Nobel Laureate in Literature, Passes Away at 74
Orhan Pamuk, Turkey’s first Nobel Prize winner in Literature, has died at the age of 74. The Swedish Academy announced his sudden passing in a social media statement. Pamuk was one of his country’s most celebrated writers, selling over 13 million copies of novels translated into 63 languages. His best-known works include My Name Is Red, Snow, The White Castle and The Black Book. A former professor of writing and comparative literature at Columbia University, he also held membership in the American Philosophical Society. Born in Istanbul in 1952, Pamuk left architecture school to pursue writing and went on to win numerous international awards.
