Why Media Work Alone Is Hard to Sustain in Offa

Why Media Work Alone Is Hard to Sustain in Offa — 1 of 2
1 / 2

I believe the purchasing power for media services in Offa is extremely low. Many people expect community reports and event publicity for little or no payment. Even business owners often bargain heavily, despite the cost of staff, cameras, data, blog placements and other equipment. I once took a loan to buy media equipment and ended up with more than ₦1 million in debt, which I am still repaying. I will not make that mistake again. I now buy gadgets only when income allows, and I refer clients who need larger packages, including drone coverage, to colleagues with the right equipment. Media practitioners in Offa need another source of income. We may cover several events in a week, but getting clients to honour agreed fees is usually difficult. Familiarity and family connections also make it harder to charge fairly. Until people understand the real cost of professional publicity, relying only on event coverage in Offa will remain unsustainable.
