Shettima, Governors Study Ethiopia’s Approach to Tackling Child Malnutrition
Vice President Kashim Shettima is leading Nigerian governors and ministers in Ethiopia to study strategies for reducing malnutrition and child stunting. The delegation says the Nutrition 774 Initiative must reach households through stronger cooperation between the Federal Government, states and local governments. Governors at the exchange said nutrition efforts must prioritise pregnant women and children under five. They also linked better outcomes to healthcare, education, farming, clean water, sanitation, poverty reduction and improved security in food-producing communities. The officials plan to develop a roadmap from Ethiopia’s experience, including its Seqota Declaration. They say sustained implementation over the next four to five years could improve nutrition outcomes for Nigerian children and families.
