Soludo Imposes ₦20M Fine on Traders Closing Shops on Mondays
Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has directed that traders must notify market executives before closing their shops on any market day. Any shop found closed on Mondays will be sealed and incur a ₦20 million fine. Traders who unseal their own shops without due process face an additional ₦20 million penalty. To avoid court proceedings, they can negotiate a plea bargain ranging from ₦5 million to ₦10 million. This directive was issued at a meeting with leaders of 41 major markets in Anambra state. The government stresses that commerce is the backbone of the state economy and warns that ignorance of the law will not be accepted as an excuse.
