Onanuga’s Blind Spot: Hunger and Anger Grip Nigeria

I see hunger ravaging Nigeria. It is nothing new, but today it bites harder and dehumanises more. In extreme cases, it even kills. Recently, Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, claimed he “doesn’t see” the level of hunger people talk about. He pointed to a few new roads as proof of progress while millions still go without food. Foreign missions from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, the EU and Ukraine have all launched multi-million-dollar food aid projects here. Yet our own adviser remains out of touch with this crisis. Hunger has fueled anger. Federal workers are planning nationwide protests for better wages and welfare. If Onanuga truly advises the President, he must acknowledge both the hunger and the outrage before it’s too late.
