Redeemer’s University Lecturer Calls for Gender-Focused Humanitarian Response
Professor Oluwatoyin Olatundun Ilesanmi delivered Redeemer’s University’s 24th inaugural lecture in Ede, Osun State, examining the links between gender, humanitarianism and psychosocial wellbeing. Speaking on the theme, “Vulnerability, Voice and Valour,” she argued that gender should be treated as a structural issue shaping access to education, leadership, healthcare, safety, livelihoods and bodily autonomy. She warned that gender blindness during humanitarian crises worsens the experiences of marginalised groups. She called for scholarship, counselling, policy and peacebuilding efforts that protect dignity and reduce inequality. Ilesanmi, who leads the university’s Centre for Gender, Humanitarian and Development Studies, has authored more than 70 publications.
