I Was Coerced to Retract My Claims Against Umahi for $70k, Businesswoman Says
Businesswoman Tracyniter Nicholas Ohiri alleges she was forced to retract her accusations against Works Minister David Umahi in exchange for a $70,000 promise. She claims lawyer Marshal Abubakar scripted the apology video and assured her she would be paid before it went public. Ohiri says the payment never arrived and that she was isolated and intimidated during the process. She is calling on the Nigerian Bar Association to investigate Abubakar’s conduct as unethical. She originally accused Umahi of owing her N250 million for campaign services and of sexual harassment—claims the minister denies. Ohiri was later arrested for alleged cyberbullying and arraigned for defamation but granted bail. Abubakar rejects the coercion allegations. He says there was no contract and that the $70,000 was provided by a third party to facilitate peace, not as admission of liability. He adds that Ohiri later demanded N300 million and that he may take legal action over her latest claims.
