Bauchi Police Delay Release of 16-Year-Old Jennifer After Da’awah Group Objects
Bauchi police have reportedly delayed the release of 16-year-old Jennifer to her parents after representatives of an Islamic Da’awah group objected to a directive by the state Commissioner of Police. Jennifer’s parents travelled from Adamawa State to Bauchi after they were invited to the police headquarters. They said the commissioner initially directed that their daughter be released to them, but the decision was halted after the group raised concerns about her safety and requested that the matter be taken to court. Police reportedly moved Jennifer to the Bauchi State Agency for Orphans and Vulnerable Children pending a further review. Her parents allege that she was taken from a Christian rehabilitation centre and converted to Islam without their consent, while calling for due process and an independent investigation into her custody and welfare.
