Rivers Residents Fear Crocodiles and Snakes as Severe Flooding Submerges Homes

Residents of Rumuapu in Rukpokwu, Obio-Akpor LGA of Rivers State say severe flooding has surrounded their homes and brought snakes, crocodiles and other reptiles into the community. One resident, who has lived in the area for 14 years, said previous rainfall usually drained away quickly. She said the current flooding is unlike anything she has experienced, with water reaching waist level in some areas and household belongings floating inside homes. Flooding has also disrupted the Agbarho-Ughelli Expressway in Delta State after a culvert collapse made part of the road impassable. Affected residents are calling for urgent assistance, relocation support and measures to protect lives and property.
