Former Tottenham Defender Ramon Vega Announces FIFA Presidency Bid
Former Tottenham Hotspur, Celtic and Watford defender Ramon Vega has announced plans to contest next year’s FIFA presidential election against Gianni Infantino. The 55-year-old former Switzerland international said he wants to restore trust in world football, reform FIFA’s governance and unite its member associations. He previously considered running in 2015 and 2019 but did not secure enough backing to appear on the ballot. Vega must be nominated by a FIFA member association, obtain support from at least five of its 211 federations and pass an eligibility review before becoming an official candidate. FIFA’s governance structure is also facing renewed scrutiny, with calls for reforms from several continental confederations.
