Senator Ishaku Abbo Quits ADC for Labour Party Amid Leadership Crisis

Senator Ishaku Abbo Quits ADC for Labour Party Amid Leadership Crisis

Former Adamawa North lawmaker Senator Ishaku Abbo has formally resigned from the African Democratic Congress. He blamed ongoing leadership disputes and conflicting court judgments for his decision. In a statement shared on social media, Abbo cited a Federal High Court ruling that voided ADC state congresses and a Supreme Court order sending the dispute back for further hearing. He said the uncertainty left him no choice but to leave. Abbo announced he and his SIA Movement supporters have joined the Labour Party to prepare for the 2027 general elections. He asked for understanding from former colleagues in ADC and said he will soon reveal his preferred presidential candidate.

What impact do you expect Senator Abbo's move to the Labour Party will have on Adamawa North's politics?

When you mention impact, are you thinking of shifts in voter support or changes within the state assembly?

Good point. I think people blowing this too much though; Adamawa politics hardly shift overnight.

Abbo's blaming court rulings and leadership disputes sounds convenient—it doesn't explain his real political calculations or potential gains.

I'm not sure switching parties solves anything when intra-party crises seem widespread across Nigerian politics too.

Local voters should monitor how Labour Party leadership will address the same issues that drove Abbo away from ADC.
