Nigeria Traces Contacts of First Ebola Patient as INEC Misses Voter Register Deadline
Nigeria is tracing contacts linked to its first Ebola patient after she travelled from Uganda. Health officials say she had no symptoms during the journey but fell ill after arriving in Nigeria. Forty-four contacts have been traced and placed in quarantine. The government is seeking passenger manifests from the aviation sector and has received offers of support from other countries. Officials are also drawing on lessons from Nigeria’s 2014 Ebola response. Anyone with recent travel to affected countries and symptoms including headache, nausea, vomiting or muscle aches has been urged to report them through the toll-free line, 6232. Meanwhile, INEC did not publish the preliminary voters’ register online by the required 90-day deadline before the 2027 elections. The commission said the register was displayed at registration areas from 9 to 15 October. Ekiti lawmakers also passed a bill to create State Police Services, while suspected Boko Haram fighters attacked two communities in Gombi, Adamawa.
