UEFA, CONCACAF and AFC Accuse FIFA of Deception Over World Cup Stake Sale
UEFA, CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation have accused FIFA of “deception” and a “fundamental breach of trust” over a failed proposal to sell stakes in the World Cup. In a joint open letter, the confederations rejected FIFA’s claim that the proposal was simply a mistake. They said it reflected a serious failure of judgment and criticised the handling of a recent FIFA management meeting in Morocco. The dispute adds to mounting pressure on FIFA president Gianni Infantino. UEFA has reportedly threatened to boycott FIFA competitions while he remains in office, while FIFA insists that allegations against its president are unsubstantiated and that he remains focused on expanding the game globally.
