Oyo Rescue: Makinde’s Silence on Tinubu’s Role Sparks Debate

Oyo Rescue: Makinde’s Silence on Tinubu’s Role Sparks Debate — 1 of 2
1 / 2

We are in deep trouble. Social media is awash with a false “thank you” message from Gov. Seyi Makinde to President Tinubu after pupils and teachers were freed from kidnappers in Oriire LGA. In many democracies, the president would address the nation, dispatch medical and psychological teams, and support victims’ families. Here, there has been no formal statement or recovery plan announced at the federal level. Instead, I see supporters praising the president for resolving a crisis that highlights security failures. This misplaced gratitude shows how low our expectations have fallen.

Why do you think Makinde stayed silent about Tinubu's involvement in the rescue operation?

It's odd that a gratitude message appeared online without any official confirmation from Makinde's office

I'm not convinced the presidency had a larger role than local authorities in freeing those pupils and teachers
