Is Schooling in Nigeria Really Preparing Us for Society?
Many Nigerians believe education is only about speaking good English and scoring high marks for a well-paying job. Yet true schooling should shape our behavior and teach us to apply what we learn in everyday life. Since independence in 1960, we still struggle to build a functional society. Some who claim to be educated destroy public property, steal, overcharge for projects, litter our streets, defecate in public, and produce substandard goods that harm citizens. If our schools were effective, we would see a clear difference between how educated people and the illiterate behave. But in Nigeria today, both often act the same way.
