FG Promotes Sports and Skills Training to Rehabilitate Inmates in Ekiti
The Federal Government says sports and skills acquisition are central to rehabilitating inmates and preparing them for reintegration into society after incarceration. At a sports competition held at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ado-Ekiti, the Interior Minister said custodial centres should serve as places where inmates can develop useful skills, discipline and confidence. The event featured football, volleyball, table tennis, ludo and other games aimed at promoting fitness, teamwork and positive social interaction. General FC won the football final after beating Chiefs FC 5-3 on penalties following a 2-2 draw. The winners received ₦100,000, while Chiefs FC and third-placed Senior Boys FC received ₦50,000 and ₦25,000 respectively. Officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service said such programmes can help inmates discover talents, stay productively engaged and return to society better prepared to contribute positively.
