Anambra Seals Clinic, Arrests Woman Over Fatal Illegal Surgeries

Anambra Seals Clinic, Arrests Woman Over Fatal Illegal Surgeries — 1 of 10
1 / 10

The Anambra State Government has stepped up its fight against quackery in healthcare. Authorities arrested a 47-year-old woman for allegedly performing surgical procedures without qualifications. The suspect ran an unlicensed TBA facility in Umueri, Anambra East LGA. She is accused of carrying out caesarean sections, normal deliveries and other operations. The Ministry of Health linked the facility to medical complications and deaths. During a July 12 inspection, officials found surgical instruments, hospital beds, a shrine and an altar inside the premises. The Ministry said the suspect admitted to her unauthorised practice. The health facility has been sealed pending legal proceedings. The woman will be arraigned in court.

The state should set up mobile clinics and credential verification drives to curb illegal surgeries in rural areas.
