Was I Wrong to Refuse My Brother a Job Recommendation?
I have worked hard to build a career in public relations, while my older brother has struggled with consistency as a designer. During my service year, I recommended him to a friend, but he missed deadlines, ignored messages and left me apologising to the client. When he later asked me to share his portfolio with people in my professional circle, I agreed at first but became uncomfortable. I could not risk my reputation by recommending someone whose reliability I could not confidently guarantee. Instead of being honest, I made excuses and did not send it out. He believes I do not want him to succeed, while my parents think I should have supported him more. I believe family support should not mean putting my professional credibility on the line without proof that he has improved. Was I wrong?
