Ex-Minister Bashir Yuguda Defends Jonathan’s Experience Against Atiku’s Claim
Former Minister Bashir Yuguda has rejected former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar’s assertion that Goodluck Jonathan was inexperienced during his presidency. Yuguda highlighted Jonathan’s track record, citing his roles as deputy governor, governor, vice-president, and acting president. He argued these positions were critical preparatory steps that informed Jonathan’s deliberate and measured leadership style. Yuguda pointed to milestones under Jonathan’s administration: Nigeria becoming Africa’s largest economy, declines in poverty, agricultural reforms, railway rehabilitation, the founding of universities and Almajiri schools, and two terms on the UN Security Council. He also praised Jonathan’s decision to concede the 2015 election as a landmark for democracy. According to Yuguda, reducing Jonathan’s tenure to “inexperience” ignores both his extensive preparation and enduring contributions.
