Coal City Games 2026: NSC Confirms 20-Sport Lineup for Enugu Festival
The National Sports Commission has officially listed twenty sports for the 23rd National Sports Festival – the Coal City Games – set to run from 27 November to 11 December 2026 in Enugu. At a meeting in Abuja, the NSC Director General clarified that the decision to trim the programme to twenty sports was made at the last National Council on Sports session in Calabar. This move reflects current economic realities and follows the model adopted for the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where some events are merged. To improve coordination, the Commission will strengthen communication with state sports directors. The approved events cover both able-bodied and para competitions in athletics, badminton, basketball (3×3), boxing, canoeing, cricket, cycling, darts, football, golf, gymnastics, judo, mixed martial arts, shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis, taekwondo, weightlifting, and wrestling.
