Court Order, Not Senator Nwoye, Stopped Nsugbe Igweship Selection

Court records show that the planned selection of a new Igwe of Nsugbe in Anambra East was halted by a preservative order issued by the Awka Judicial Division, not by Senator Tony Nwoye. Justice Jude Obiora ordered all parties to maintain the status quo as of July 8, 2026. The order restrains anyone from conducting or giving effect to the August 8 selection of an Igwe from Ivite Quarter until the substantive suit is resolved. The court also ruled that Ivite Quarter will not lose its turn to produce the next traditional ruler while the dispute is pending. The Nsugbe Development Union subsequently asked the DSS to help enforce the order and prevent a breach of peace. The caretaker committee has maintained that it was not bound by the ruling because neither it nor the Anambra State Government was listed as a party. The case is now set for accelerated hearing.
