Liverpool Teen Ngumoha Channels Nigeria’s Iconic 1996 Dream Team Jersey
Liverpool prospect Rio Ngumoha was spotted proudly wearing Nigeria’s famous 1996 Dream Team jersey in a photo shared by a leading sports outlet. The 17-year-old beamed with excitement as he donned the green and white kit that captured Olympic gold in Atlanta. That legendary jersey was worn by Nigeria’s U-23 side under coach Johannes Bonfrère when they defeated Mexico, Brazil and Argentina on their way to Olympic glory. Seeing a Premier League talent embrace this legacy has already sparked talk among fans. Ngumoha has made 17 Premier League appearances this season, scoring twice and providing one assist. Born in England to Nigerian and Guadeloupean parents, he holds both Nigerian and French passports. After progressing through Chelsea’s academy and joining Liverpool in summer 2024, he scored on his Premier League debut and became the club’s youngest Champions League participant. Many Nigerians will be keen to see if he opts to represent the Super Eagles on the international stage.
