Senate Leader Demands State Police After 87 Pupils, Teachers Kidnapped in Borno and Oyo
The Leader of the Senate condemned the abduction of 87 students and teachers in Borno and Oyo states within 24 hours, calling it an attack on Nigeria’s future. He highlighted the urgent need to expedite the creation of state police through pending constitutional amendments. Once the National Assembly completes its work, the proposal will go to state legislatures for two-thirds approval before it takes effect. He also urged federal and state authorities to adopt the Safe School Initiative as a short-term measure. When the Senate resumes on June 2, he promised to fast-track security bills, including amendments to the Constitution and the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, to curb such crimes.
