Lagos CBD Cracks Down on Offenders: 859 Arrested, Seven Officials Suspended
The Lagos State Central Business District Office has intensified enforcement in Lagos Island and Ikeja. Officials arrested and prosecuted 859 offenders for crimes like illegal parking, traffic light violations and dangerous driving. In a recent press briefing at Alausa, the Special Adviser on Central Business Districts announced the suspension of seven staff members for misconduct and insubordination. She stressed that all public complaints against officers are fully investigated and disciplined when necessary. Illegal shanties along key commercial corridors were demolished to improve sanitation and create a safer business environment for traders and residents. Enforcement teams sometimes faced attacks from hoodlums and some NURTW elements during operations. The CBD team also played a role in emergency response, including the Great Nigeria Insurance Building collapse on Christmas Eve 2025. Officials said they have stepped up stakeholder engagements and sensitisation campaigns to promote compliance with sanitation and traffic regulations.
