AEFUNAI Theatre Arts Students Use Carnival Showcase to Celebrate Nigerian Culture
Theatre Arts students at Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, staged a colourful carnival parade featuring self-made traditional costumes inspired by Nigeria's diverse ethnic cultures. The showcase was part of the department's Carnival Arts course for 300-level students. It gives them practical experience in costume-making, choreography, make-up artistry and carnival packaging, while promoting cultural preservation. Lecturers said the course is designed to help students build income-generating skills beyond white-collar employment. Participants added that the exercise keeps indigenous styles visible and could inspire community carnival projects during festive periods.
