Zambia Coach Questions CAF Tie-Break Rule After WAFCON Exit
Zambia coach Nora Häuptle has criticised CAF’s tie-break rules after the Copper Queens were eliminated from WAFCON despite beating Malawi 2-1. Zambia, Nigeria and Malawi finished level on points. CAF applied a head-to-head mini-table, where Nigeria scored four goals, Malawi scored three and Zambia scored two in matches among the tied teams. Nigeria and Malawi therefore progressed. Häuptle said it was difficult to accept the exit because Zambia had scored the most goals and conceded the fewest in the group overall. Captain Barbra Banda and forward Racheal Kundananji said the team would learn from the setback and return stronger.
