Kaduna Health Forum Urges Media to Boost Accountability and Service Uptake
At a recent roundtable in Kaduna, health stakeholders urged stronger media involvement to improve accountability in health programmes. They stressed the need for simple, data-driven messages to raise awareness of immunisation, maternal care, nutrition, HIV and tuberculosis services. Officials reported that the state’s primary healthcare performance score rose from 67.4% to 83.7% after introducing a new supervision framework. Despite this progress, 65% of facilities still lack adequate rooms, 87% face power outages, and many have no essential equipment. Reproductive, maternal and child health indicators show mixed results. Postnatal care coverage reached 92% and PMTCT hit 120%, while antenatal visits and skilled birth attendance remain below targets. Stakeholders highlighted challenges in supply chains, workforce shortages, funding delays and low community demand. The forum concluded with commitments to regular media‐health sector dialogues, improved public access to health data, strengthened community feedback, and ongoing training for journalists on accurate, ethical health reporting.
