Herder Collapses After 42 Cows Die While Grazing in FCT Community

A 41-year-old herder, Musa Lawal, reportedly collapsed after 42 of his cows died while grazing in Koroko community, Kwali Area Council of the FCT. The cattle were taken out by Lawal's sons on Tuesday evening and were later found dead at different points in the bush. The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association said the animals may have eaten grass contaminated with chemicals. Lawal was treated at the General Hospital in Kwali and discharged the following day. The Kwali Area Council has asked security agencies to investigate the deaths and says it is considering support for the affected herder to help prevent tension between farmers and herders.

It is too early to settle on any cause without clearer information on what happened while they grazed.

Authorities should document the locations, inspect the area, and help prevent another grazing loss nearby.
