Pope Leo XIV Convenes Vatican Exorcist Summit Over Global Rise in Occultism
Pope Leo XIV invited the world’s senior exorcists to the Vatican after reports of a worrying increase in occultism, esotericism and Satanism. The private meeting brought together a delegation from the International Association of Exorcists, who presented their findings on the growing number of cases and the spiritual toll on the faithful. During the audience, the exorcist priests urged the pontiff to ensure every diocese has at least one properly trained exorcist. Father Francesco Bamonte, vice president of the Association, warned that without an official response, many people risk turning to unsafe or inappropriate solutions. The Pope was also presented with the latest “Guidelines for the Ministry of Exorcism” and an image of Saint Michael the Archangel from Monte Sant’Angelo sanctuary. Leo XIV, aged 70, has previously described the work of exorcists as both a ministry of liberation and consolation. The summit took place on March 13 and was first reported on March 23 by a Vatican news outlet. It underscores the Church’s renewed emphasis on addressing serious spiritual afflictions.
