U.S. Central Command Confirms Full Naval Blockade Halts All Trade with Iran
The U.S. military says it has fully enforced a naval blockade on Iranian ports, bringing all seaborne trade to a complete standstill. Commander Brad Cooper of U.S. Central Command announced that the blockade was fully in place within 36 hours of its launch. Guided-missile destroyers took part in the operation, which is applied impartially to vessels of any nationality entering or leaving Iran’s coastal waters. The move follows failed talks between Washington and Tehran in Islamabad. The goal of the blockade is to cut off Iran’s oil revenues and its fees for passage through the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM provided details on social media.
