Maresca Jokes Haaland’s Goals Could Complicate Man City Captaincy
Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has joked that Erling Haaland’s prolific scoring could complicate his chances of becoming the club’s next captain. Maresca said he used a rule at Leicester City and Chelsea requiring the captain to come to the bench for instructions after every goal instead of joining the celebrations. He said Haaland would be allowed to celebrate if he scored, but joked that the arrangement would become difficult because of how often the Norwegian striker finds the net. City are seeking a new captain following Bernardo Silva’s departure. Maresca said the squad already has a leadership group, with one more player still needed. Manchester City face Arsenal in the Community Shield before opening their league season at home to Bournemouth on August 23.
