Oyo State Issues Flash Flood Alert Ahead of Heavy Rains

Oyo State Issues Flash Flood Alert Ahead of Heavy Rains

Residents across Oyo State have been urged to prepare for possible flash flooding this month. The Nigerian Meteorological Agency warns of intense thunderstorms and heavy rainfall that could cause sudden flooding and road overflows. The state government has stepped up clearing of key drainage channels. Residents must keep drains and waterways free of waste and avoid driving or walking through flooded roads, especially at night when flash floods can be deceptive and powerful. People living in low-lying areas should move valuables, important documents, and electrical equipment above ground level. Parents are advised to keep children and other vulnerable persons indoors during heavy downpours. Emergency response teams are on standby to handle any flood-related incidents.

I doubt the warning from NiMet reaches all areas effectively, some people might still be caught off guard by sudden floods.

Clearing roads alone won't stop flash floods; we also need proper drainage maintenance and community readiness to manage sudden water surges.

Keep your compound drains clear of debris ahead of storms, and stay updated on NiMet bulletins for sudden flood warnings.
