Trump Abruptly Exits White House Session on Iran Deal

Trump Abruptly Exits White House Session on Iran Deal

President Trump paused a two-hour meeting at the White House on a proposed Iran agreement without reaching any conclusion. He walked out before aides could finalize terms for extending the cease-fire. Before the session, Trump insisted that Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz, commit never to build a nuclear weapon and allow the U.S. to remove enriched uranium. Tehran has rejected those demands, and the president said he will only sign a deal that meets his “red lines” and halts Iran’s nuclear ambitions. News outlets had reported negotiators from both sides agreed to a tentative 60-day cease-fire extension. The White House gathering was meant to decide whether to formally back that plan as fresh talks continue on Iran’s disputed nuclear program.

Abeg, walking out halfway defeats the whole point of extending any cease-fire; it looks like a power move rather than serious diplomacy.

To salvage negotiations, future sessions should set clear benchmarks beforehand and include neutral mediators to keep talks from stalling.
