CITAD Plants 616 Trees in Northern Nigeria, Targets One Million
The Centre for Information Technology and Development has planted 616 trees across Kano, Jigawa and Bauchi states under its one-million-tree campaign to tackle desertification, environmental degradation and climate change. The campaign, launched on September 2, 2026, focuses on restoring degraded land, protecting indigenous tree species and mobilising communities. Of the 616 trees reported, 345 have so far been verified as planted and alive, while the others are awaiting confirmation. CITAD has established four nurseries in Kano, Dutse and Jama'are to supply native seedlings. It says demand from communities already exceeds available seedlings and has called for support from governments, development partners, philanthropists and private seedling producers. The organisation also urged northern state governments and communities to help protect young trees with materials and sustained maintenance.
