Super Falcons Captain on Belief and Unity Behind 3-2 WAFCON Comeback
Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade says belief in one another and unity fuelled Nigeria’s historic turnaround against Morocco in the 2024 WAFCON final. Trailing 2-0 at half-time, Nigeria struck back early in the second half. Esther Okoronkwo converted a penalty, set up Folashade Ijamilusi’s equaliser and delivered the free-kick that Jennifer Echegini buried to complete the 3-2 win. Ajibade revealed that a powerful halftime speech and a mission to inspire young girls gave the squad fresh motivation. After lifting the record-extending 10th WAFCON title, the team donated football kits and equipment to 150 grassroots programmes across Nigeria.
