Otti: How Ex-Administration Punished Cleric Who Backed My Governorship Bid

Otti: How Ex-Administration Punished Cleric Who Backed My Governorship Bid

Governor Alex Otti spoke at a thanksgiving service marking his third year in office. He praised Dr Emma Okorie of Living Word Ministries for praying and standing by him since his campaign days. Otti recalled that during his 2014 bid for the Abia governorship, authorities pressured the cleric to drop his support. When Okorie refused, his fence was torn down by the previous administration. Otti said both he and the cleric have forgiven those responsible. The governor reaffirmed his commitment to serving God and fulfilling his campaign promises. He announced plans to build a privately funded ecumenical centre in Umuahia on land he acquired in 2009. In his sermon, Dr Okorie likened Otti’s emergence to Moses delivering the Israelites from Egypt. The Catholic bishop also urged all public officials to trust God, continue doing good, and remember they will one day give an account for their service.

What might have motivated the previous administration to target Dr Emma Okorie so harshly after supporting Otti's campaign?

What evidence shows her campaign support directly led to those harsh measures?

It's interesting that Otti still acknowledges Dr Okorie's loyalty after all these years, yet the details of that punishment remain vague.

Mentioning a decade-old clerical punishment distracts more from Otti's current achievements than it challenges his record.

Local leaders should document any political backlash incidents early, so future narratives like this can have solid evidence on both sides.
