Why Trump May End Up Like Julian the Apostate
Few know of the Roman Emperor Julian the Apostate, successor to Constantine, the first Christian emperor. Unlike Constantine, Julian clung to Rome’s old religion. He revived sacrifices and the imperial cult, and opposed the empire’s Christian turn. He asked why Jews no longer offered blood sacrifices. They replied their law allowed it only at the long‑destroyed Temple. Julian then saw a way to discredit Christianity. If he rebuilt the Temple and public sacrifices resumed, it would challenge the Christian claim that Christ ended temple rites. Julian authorized a Jewish return to Jerusalem and funded the rebuild. Some accounts say certain groups mocked nearby Christians and boasted that, with the Temple restored, they would reclaim Palestine, even taunting, “Where is your God, Yesus, now?” Like Julian’s campaign against Persia (modern Iran), Trump’s hard line on Iran and recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital are cast here as moves that elevate Judaism and undermine Christianity. The warning is that Trump could end up like Julian the Apostate. To be continued....
