Maikaba Targets Immediate NPFL Return for Bayelsa United
Bayelsa United technical adviser Abdul Maikaba says his target is to return the club to the Nigeria Premier Football League after one season in the Nigeria National League. The Prosperity Boys are preparing for the 2026/27 NNL campaign, which begins on October 31. Maikaba said the team is still assessing its squad after a pre-season win over De Go-Pro FC of Sapele. More than 60 players are currently in camp, but the coaching crew plans to reduce the squad to 35. Bayelsa United will compete in Conference B alongside Akwa United, Beyond Limits FA, Solution FC, Ekiti United and other sides. Maikaba said the club is ready to face any opponent and will use more friendly matches to finalise a squad capable of securing promotion.
