“Why is this granted me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” — Luke 1:43 Filled with the Holy Spirit, Elizabeth did not only call Mary the mother of Jesus. She called her “the mother of my Lord.” Christians believe Jesus is fully God and fully man. Mary gave birth to Jesus Christ, who is truly God. This is why she is honoured as the Mother of God, not because she existed before God, but because the Son she bore is God. Mother of our Lord, help us to know, love and follow your Son.
