Lagos to Sue User for Sharing Fake Flood Video

Lagos to Sue User for Sharing Fake Flood Video

The Lagos State Government has warned it will take legal action against a social media user who shared a flood video from Bangladesh as if it showed Lagos. Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab said deleting the clip after it was debunked will not stop legal consequences. Checks showed the footage actually came from Bangladesh. He urged everyone to verify sources before posting to avoid misleading the public and undermining real concerns. Wahab said free speech must be exercised responsibly and the government will pursue the matter in court.

What motivates someone to share a flood video from Bangladesh as if it happened here in Lagos?

I agree, false flood footage only creates panic and distracts from real issues here in Lagos.

Taking legal action over a single misleading video seems drastic, especially when deleting the clip won't stop future misposts.

I no dey sure say suing just one user go really discourage false shares across hundreds of accounts.

A simple verification step before reposting could help everyone avoid legal trouble and protect Lagos's reputation.
