FCT High Court Issues Bench Warrant for PDP Factional Chairman Sen. Tanimu Turaki
A High Court in the Federal Capital Territory has issued a bench warrant for Sen. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki. He is the self-appointed factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party. The warrant followed his absence at arraignment on a one-count charge of giving false information to the police. The Inspector-General of Police filed the charge, alleging Turaki submitted a petition in October 2022 to injure or annoy Saidi Mohammed Mainasara. The offence is punishable under Section 140 of the Penal Code Law. At Thursday’s hearing, the prosecution told the court that Turaki had been served with both the charge and a hearing notice but failed to appear. Turaki’s lawyer asked for time to argue a motion to quash the charge before his client’s appearance. Justice Peter Kekemeke ruled that a plea must be taken first and that motions can only be heard afterward. He adjourned the case until April 22 for Turaki’s arraignment.
